KINGDOM PEOPLE. KINGDOM PURPOSE

Scripture: Exodus 19:5-6

Title: Kingdom People. Kingdom Purpose
Author: Robert Dawson
Text: Exodus 19:5-6

Put on your imagination caps and climb into your DeLorean, for you Back to the Future fans, and pretend that you are a time traveler who has been catapulted 200 years into the future with no way to return to your own time. You are a stuck in a world vastly different from the one you remember. All your friends and family are gone. Your way of life is gone. Everything familiar to you is gone. Everything is different. Everything has changed... except one. God is still God. God is still on the His throne. God is still sovereign. God is still in control. No matter how much time elapses or how much things change that truth remains.

Today, I want us to spend a little time considering God's Kingdom, His rule and reign, one not bound by space, or by time. I also want us to think about our place in that Kingdom. Let's read a passage from the OT.

Exodus 19.5-6 - Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; 6 and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.'

Buried in the middle of those verses we find a very important truth...GOD SOVEREIGNLY RULES OVER ALL CREATION

God is preparing to enter into covenant with the children of Israel whom He has recently rescued from Egyptian slavery in grand and miraculous fashion. Before He gives the law, God reminds them of His sovereign rule over all the earth. In verse 5 He tells them "All the earth is Mine."

He claims absolute authority. He establishes His right to rule over, not just them, but all things.

- Deuteronomy 10.14 - Behold, to the Lord your God belong heaven and the highest heavens, the earth and all that is in it.

- Psalm 50.12 - For the world is mine and everything it contains

- Psalm 103.19 - The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all.
