Title: Be All You Can Be (2)
Series: Build Stronger
Author: Joey Rodgers
Text: Ephesians 2:8-10
Have you heard of Biosphere 2? It's an earth science research facility in AZ. built to discover the impact of climate change and to study the viability of a closed ecological system to support human life in space.
After the facility was built an interesting event occurred - the trees they planted grew way faster than they would've in the wild, yet they never reached maturity. Instead, when they got to a certain size, the splintered/collapsed b/c they were too weak to support themselves. Scientists learned that due to a lack of wind/stress inside the biosphere, the trees were unable to develop the necessary stress wood to mature.
SEE - when trees grow in the wild, the wind keeps them constantly moving placing stress on the load-bearing parts of the tree. To compensate, a tree grows stress wood. This stress wood has a different cellular density from the rest of the tree that strengthens it.
Personally - I find this to be true in many areas of life. Whether it's a tree, a child, a marriage, or even a church, there's a need for enough stress/resistance to strengthen/toughen us to teach us how to take care of ourselves so that we can do more than just survive, but so that we can thrive in any environment we face.
Last Sunday, we began laying out year 4 of our Aim Higher, Dream Bigger initiative - by introducing the commission to BUILD STRONGER.
To Build Stronger refers to the intentional process of enhancing/fortifying something - whether physical, emotional, spiritual, or relational to try to improve its effectiveness, endurance, and quality. It's engaging in activities that positively impact ourselves/others to contribute to a more fulfilling/impactful existence.
W/ regard to our church - to build stronger is about how we're striving to improve/empower our church members, our church ministries, and God's Kingdom as we seek first His Kingdom/ri ...
