Title: Sin (6)
Series: God Defines It
Author: Jordan Easley
Text: Romans 3:23, James 1:13-15
I've been in ministry since the day my kids were born... and just about every single Saturday one of them will ask me... "Hey Dad, what are you preaching on tomorrow?" ...and most of the time, I'll answer them and say... "I'm preaching on JESUS and SIN." It doesn't matter what the text is... or what the series might be... that's my go-to response. I'm preaching on JESUS and SIN.
Well, today, believe it or not, we're concluding the "God Defined It" message series... and in this final message, I want to show you what God's word has to say about (you guessed it) ... JESUS... and SIN. The Bible says in...
[Romans 3:23] "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Who is that talking about? All of us. The Bible says... Every single one of us are sinners. Would you agree with that? I've never met a person who claimed to be sinless or perfect. Not once... All of us have sinned. All of us fall short of God's glory.
But the longer we live, the more this world tries to convince us that certain things in our culture are no longer sin, even though the Bible describes them as sin. For instance, we hear all the time that we shouldn't make a big deal about people having sex before marriage (or doing sexual things outside of marriage) because today, that's just part of the dating process.
People say getting drunk isn't that big of deal, because everybody drinks. When our world talks about things like gossip or gluttony... when we think about lusting or coveting, or telling a little white lie (from time to time)... we like to downplay what we believe to be 'little sins'-even in our Christian culture... and we make it seem like these LITTLE things aren't that BIG of a deal... even to God.
Let me tell you something-Every sin is a big sin to God. That includes what we see asSMALL sins. Every sin is a big deal to God... and we see that ...
