1. Reynolds Price was an American poet and novelist. He was the James B. Duke Professor of English at Duke University. Before he retired the university gave Price its highest honor when it awarded him the University Medal for Distinguished Meritorious Service. He loved writing stories and novels. 2. We are all born with the need to be loved by somebody. I believe deep down there is a hunger to know that the God who created us loved us because after all if there is no greater being in the world than God, then there can be no greater love that someone could have for us than God himself.

3. But, there are multitudes of people all over this world who even though they may believe in God have a hard time believing that God is love or a hard time believing that God loves them. They blame God. They say if God really does love us, if God really does love this world then why is there so much evil in the world? Then, there are others who blame themselves. They say there is no way that God could love someone like me. I am not worthy of God's love.

4. In ancient times, the concept of a loving God was totally foreign. The Greco-Roman gods were not seen as loving; they didn't care anything about people. But in the world of Jesus, to hear that God - any god - loved anybody would have been a foreign concept. It would have been laughed at or ridiculed.
