Text: Genesis 1:27

A couple weeks ago, I went fishing in Homer, Alaska with a few buddies and our sons. We caught a lot of salmon in the river... but on our last day, we decided to go into the ocean... deep-sea fishing for halibut.

It took about an hour and a half to boat the 30 miles offshore... but once we arrived, I was shocked at what I saw. The water appeared to be perfectly calm. Before we left, they encouraged us to take Dramamine because it's typically pretty crazy out there, but on that day, there were no waves, whatsoever.

It was pretty... it was peaceful... and if you're like me, you'd assume it was also very safe. Apparently, that's not the case. While we were out there the captain received a call over the radio, from the Coast Guard. 2 different boats (that were fishing in the same area we were fishing) had already capsized that morning... and 8 people were currently missing... lost at sea.

When he shared that news with us, I asked him how that could possibly happen. There were no waves. There were no storms. How could people be missing... and boats be sinking? This is what he told me: "Sometimes, the most dangerous storms we experience are the storms under the surface."

He said-to the naked eye, the waters look peaceful... but a trained captain knows that right now, under the surface, that water is moving at 26 knots... it's like a tidal wave that no one can see... and if you're not paying attention... and if you're not careful... you can easily be caught in the current and swept away.

To the casual observer, this world might seem normal... as we live, one day after another, and experience one thing after the other, people like us have a way of being lulled to sleep by the gradual culture shifts of the day.

There aren't too many big waves that scare us, or big swells that startle us... but the devilhas a sneaky way of keeping ...
