Hard conversations are just that: Hard! Uncomfortable? Yes. Undesirable? Yes. Unfruitful? Never.

Wherever there are two or more people, be it in a marriage relationship, in a family, at the job, in the neighborhood, on the team or in church, hard conversations will eventually come.

One of the hardest conversations I've ever had took place with my family. It was the night I had to tell my children I had a fast-growing malignant cancer. Perhaps you've had similar conversations that you wish somehow you could have avoided.

That's what we find Jesus talking about today from Matthew 18 as we continue our series of messages under the heading: The Deuteronomy Connection. We've seen over the last several weeks that the book of Deuteronomy was Jesus' "go to" book. Matthew records several occasions where Jesus would refer to the constitution of the people of God, the book of Deuteronomy, when having hard conversations with the Pharisees, scribes, his disciples and large crowds.

Today we find him having a hard conversation with his disciples about having a hard conversation.
