Does your family have any special traditions and practices that guide your plans? Growing up, our family had very specific traditions, especially around the Christmas celebration.

When I was eight years old, my father's brother and his family moved across the street from us. My father loved his older brother who served in WWII in North Africa, was a prisoner of war for over 12 months near the end of the war, a purple heart recipient and one of the kindest men I ever knew.
?Having them across the street began a Christmas tradition that lasted for twenty years; until my parents retired and moved to another town. Our family would walk across the street to their house every Christmas Eve for a special dinner.

As I child, I didn't look forward to it because the adults would eat, linger and talk and then drink coffee with their special "Yul Log" desert. I wanted to get back home because our family opened gifts on Christmas Eve. The problem was my uncle's family didn't open gifts until Christmas Day, so they weren't in any hurry.

I would have to keep the pressure on my parents to get them out of there so we could go open presents. They would finally give in, and I would run across the street to our house and open gifts. Afterwards, we would go to bed and wake up on Christmas morning to see what Santa Clause had brought. Later that day, my uncle and his family would cross the street over to our house for an afternoon Christmas Day meal.

To this day, our family still opens gifts on Christmas Eve and Santa comes on Christmas Day. That was the Easley Christmas tradition established in 1965.

Churches also have special traditions and practices such as Easter Sunday sunrise services, special benevolence offering whenever they share the Lord's Supper, Christmas Eve services, Patriotic services and the list goes on. W ...
