Title: Wonderful Unity (6)
Series: Ephesians 5
Author: Stephen Whitney
Text: Ephesians 5:28-33

A Sunday School teacher told her class how God had created everything, including human beings. Little Johnny was especially intent when the teacher told them how Eve was created out of one of Adam's ribs. Later in the week his mother noticed he was lying down as though he was ill and she said, "Johnny, what is the matter?" Little Johnny responded, "I have a pain in my side. I think I'm going to have a wife."

Marriage is not that simple, as a matter of fact it is hard work because people are naturally selfish and it takes hard work for two people to each give of themselves to make the relationship work.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston had a fairy-tail wedding in July 2000 and they seemed to be the perfect movie star couple, but after a while their relationship seemed to change. For months they kept the news about their relationship a secret until they broke up.

Since their divorce became final Jennifer has opened up about the reasons behind their split were her personal insecurities. She said,

"Marriage brought up all kinds of things I pushed to the back-burner - the fear, the mistrust, the doubts and the insecurities."

She went on to say, "Brad is the kindest person I know. He's a gentleman and accepted me with all of my dysfunction and insecurities and struggles. I always felt inferior to the 'Troy' heartthrob, and that her relationship with him went through rough and nasty patches."

Brad said that his love for Jennifer was never enough. "It was becoming a nightmare, when something so good goes so bad, it's awful. Jennifer refused to recognize the problems and she had an inability to let go, always bringing up the bad memories."

What makes a Christian marriage different from other marriages?

It is the biblical command of mutual submission to one another.
