Back in 2002 a new Spiderman movie franchise was born starring Toby Maguire as Spiderman. Since that time there have been two additional, highly successful and wildly popular Spiderman franchises, one starring Andrew Garfield, and the other starring Tom Holland.
There was a line in that first Spiderman movie that became iconic. Peter Parker's Uncle Ben tells him "With great power comes great responsibility." That little simple statement contains a great deal of truth. We could also add, "With great privilege comes great responsibility."
Whenever we are entrusted with something of worth, power or privilege, there comes with it an inherent measure of responsibility and accountability.
At different stages of life there are certain rites of passage we anticipate. Each one comes with an additional privilege, sense of pride and accomplishment
- For a little boy, it may have been that first pocketknife or bb gun. Then it became their first gun or the first time they were given permission to hunt or take the boat out by themselves.
- We all know the thrill of being able to drive on our own...without our parents.
Each new rite of passage, each new privilege, while exciting and liberating, brought added risk to you and the people around you. They also brought additional responsibility and accountability.
As many of us discovered, if we did not use the privileges appropriately, behave properly operate within the guidelines we were given, the joy and blessings of those privileges were lost because our parents would take them from us.
The same is true of the spiritual blessings and privileges that God gives to His children.
- He wants us to enjoy them. He wants us to benefit from them.
- He also wants us to use them in a way that aligns with His purposes.
- We should also know that God holds us accountab ...
