On the night that Jesus was betrayed He celebrated the Passover with His disciples. He was really looking forward to that. And as you know, He took that Passover meal, and He transformed it from the Passover celebration to the Lord's Supper. As He told His disciples, "This is My body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me. This is My blood which is shed for you, the blood of the new covenant. Do this in remembrance of Me." First Corinthians chapter 11 says, "For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes."

Now, we have zero sacraments in the church. A sacrament is something where you can convey the grace of God. But we have two ordinances in the church. We have the ordinance of baptism, and we saw three give testimony of their faith in Christ through baptism this morning. And then we have the ordinance of the Lord's Supper. You say, "What's an ordinance?" It's a demonstration of our faith. It doesn't transfer grace from God; it demonstrates our faith. And both baptism and the Lord's Supper focus on the death of Christ and the resurrection of Christ. Baptism - buried in Christ in baptism, raised to walk in newness of life, because Jesus died and rose again. The Lord's Supper - "As often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death (His death on the cross) until He comes." Well, He is coming again because He rose from the dead, He ascended into heaven, and He promised He will come again.

Well, the Bible says, in First Corinthians chapter 1, verse 18 that, "The preaching of the cross (the word of the cross, the message of the cross) is to those who are perishing, foolishness; but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God." So, I want us to focus on the word of the cross, the message of the cross and what it says to us. To the world, they just look at it as foolishness. As many ...
