Title: Persevering Together in Prayer (4)
Series: Prayer

Text: 2 Thessalonians 3:1-5
Since last Sunday we have walked through some difficult days. The fear of an approaching hurricane. The howling wind and rain outside our homes hoping that our roofs and windows would be enough. The loss of electricity, broken fences, sweltering heat without air conditioning, ruined food from our refrigerators, flooding, some broken windows and in a few cases even loss of life. It has been a long week. In times of difficulty, who weathers the storm best? Those who are connected to others.
I have heard stories this week of families without electricity staying with families who have electricity. Friends lending freezer space to others. Those away on vacation opening their house to others while they are gone. Giving of time to rebuild fences. Giving of money to meet others needs. One person picking up groceries for another. One family who needed food was invited by another family to dinner at their home. Community steps to the forefront in time of need.
We are better together. We read it throughout scripture.
In Acts 2:45-47 we read about the early church,
"45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13, 24-26 add,
"12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body-whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free-and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts sho ...
