PAUL HARVEY: "A father never feels quite worthy of the worship in a child's eyes. He's never quite the hero his daughter thinks, never quite the man his son believes him to be, and this worries him sometimes. So, he works hard to smooth the rough places in the road for those of his own who will follow him. Fathers give daughters away to other men who aren't nearly good enough, so they can have grandchildren who are smarter than anybody's.A father can be a powerful force in the life of a child. Grab it! Maybe you'll get a greeting card for your efforts. Maybe not. But its steady work!"

?This month is "Humility Month" at Vero Christian Church. On Father's Day let's talk about the humility of fatherhood.

I. HUMBLE DADS ARE GODLY

"Again, the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, so the Lord delivered them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years. A certain man of Zora, named Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, had a wife who was childless, unable to give birth. The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said, 'You are barren and childless, but you are going to become pregnant and give birth to a son. He will take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines'" (Judges 13:1-3,5b)

When I say humble dads are godly I mean that it starts with God because God, our FATHER in Heaven, is humble! Humility is a GODLY/FATHERLY characteristic. We don't often think of humility when we think of God because the Bible extols his perfection and God expects to be worshiped. In most people, that would be pride, but that's not the case with God.
