1.0 We're at the Front End of a 40-Day Challenge.

1.1 For many, a challenge inspires us to grow.

A) I dare you to develop a strong prayer life.

B) Jesus didn't simply teach on prayer. He prayed...and He prayed often.

Luke 11:1 (NIV)-One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."

C) As Jesus was praying one of His disciples was closely watching Him. Then came this request: "Lord, Teach Us to Pray".

1. This unnamed disciple recognized the way Jesus prayed.

2. Jesus' prayers were not empty religious ritual or empty, swelling words that had no practical meaning.

3. The skill of prayer intrigued the unnamed disciple so much so that he strengthened his request by stating, "John the Baptist taught his disciples how to pray."

F. B. Meyer, pastor and author writes, "The greatest tragedy of life is not unanswered prayer, but unoffered prayer."

4. There were things this disciple wanted to say to God, but he lacked the assurance his prayers were getting through. Thus, his request.

5. Jesus gave this answer in what is known as: "The Lord's Prayer".

Luke 11:2-4 (NIV)-2 He said to them, "When you pray, say: "'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread. 4 Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.'"

6. To help you grow in your prayer life I would like to frame Jesus' answer as an acronym P.R.A.Y.

2.0 Here is Jesus' Answer to: Lord, Teach Us to Pray.

2.1 PRAISE.

A) Jesus taught the disciple that prayer begins with PRAISE.

Luke 11:2 (NIV)-He said to them, "When you pray, say: 'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.'"
