James 5:16 - 18 Amplified

Therefore, confess your sins to one another [your false steps, your offenses], and pray for one another, that you may be healed and restored. The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) can accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God-it is dynamic and can have tremendous power].
Elijah was a man with a nature like ours [with the same physical, mental, and spiritual limitations and shortcomings], and he prayed [d]intensely for it not to rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. 18 Then he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the land produced its crops [as usual].

We need to make prayer for each other a common practice!

The Bible teaches us to pray for one another!

Therefore, confess your sins to one another [your false steps, your offenses], and pray for one another, that you may be healed and restore.

James is telling us to clear the way for answered prayer.

Here are things that can hinder your prayer.

1. Unconfessed with sin

Psalm 66:18 says, "If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened."

2. Unforgiveness

Jesus taught us that when we prayed if we had something against another that we should go to them and have the relationship restored.

Mark 11:25, "And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses."

3. Mistreating your spouse

1 Peter 3:7

In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God's gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.
