Title: Worthwhile Journey (5 of 13)
Series: The Journey
Author: Steve Jones
Text: Luke 18:24-30
Sermon Summary: This is a worthwhile journey for four reasons. 1) Worthwhile opportunity. 2) Worthwhile possibility. 3) Worthwhile ROI. 4) Worthwhile Sacrifices.
INTRODUCTION: Paul Harvey was a radio broadcaster of a past generation. One of his trademark phrases was: "And now you know the rest of what?" The rest of the STORY.
Last Sunday we were talking about the rich young man who came to Jesus asking what he should do to inherit eternal life. Jesus told him to sell all his possessions, give the money to poor and come follow Jesus. The man went away sad because he was very rich. He didn't think it was WORTH IT to sell his possessions, give the money to the poor and follow Jesus. But that was NOT the rest of the story! After the rich man left, Jesus and his disciples had a little after-action debrief. That's what we're going to study today.
Our sermon series is "The Journey" in which we're journeying through the life of Jesus in the gospel of Luke, from birth to resurrection. Today I want us to see that following Jesus IS worth it. This is a WORTHWHILE journey. It is worthwhile for four reasons.

Luke 18:24-25 "When Jesus saw this, he said, 'How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God! In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!' Those who heard this said, 'Then who in the world can be saved?'"
As far as Jesus' discipleship is concerned, it is equal OPPORTUNITY. The rich have no advantage over the poor. If anything, they might have a DISADVANTAGE. The disciples were shocked when Jesus said it's hard for the rich to enter the kingdom because, normally, the rich get first dibs on everything! They were used to the rich being first in politics, power, sometimes even in religion.
