If you have your Bible, please turn to Zechariah chapter 3, Zechariah, the second to the last book in the Old Testament. We want to talk about "The Savior's Answer to Satanic Opposition."
Now, it has well been said that the Christian life is not a playground; it's a battleground. And we teach our kids that little song, "I'm in the Lord's army. And I may never march in the infantry, ride in the calvary, shoot the artillery, but I'm in the Lord's army." That is a good song because it's a simple song that we can all remember. But it teaches our kids that you are in the Lord's army. Paul told Timothy, "Suffer hardship with me as a good soldier of Christ Jesus." And the Christian life, we're not on a cruise ship; we're on a battleship, so to speak, and the Bible makes it clear we have a very real enemy. Peter said in First Peter chapter 5, verse 8, "Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith..."
Now, we started a series a few weeks ago on this Old Testament book, this minor prophet book, Zechariah. And Zechariah is a great book. Forty-plus references to Christ and to His coming in the Book of Zechariah. Jesus and the New Testament writers talk a lot about Zechariah, and they quote from Zechariah. It's a very important book. And today we want to look at Satan and the Lord's answer as it refers to and concerns Satan and Satan's work as he was working in the Old Testament, as he's working in the New Testament, as he's working his devilish work to steal and kill and destroy. Now, the apostle Paul says in Second Corinthians chapter 2, verse 11, "...no advantage be taken of is by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes." The devil is very methodical. He has schemes.
