John 4:19-24 - "The woman said to Him, Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. (20) Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship. (21) Jesus said to her, Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. (22) You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. (23) But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. (24) God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

A new expression has arisen in the body of Christ - The Worship War in our Churches

"What is the number one issue and controversy that churches are faced with regarding worship?" It is neither abortion nor homosexuality; it is the issue of so-called contemporary music. How it relates to the traditional music and it has been an issue for over 20 years.

I. CONVENTIONAL MUSIC

A. Nostalgic

It is what the older members grew up on. It is filled with nostalgia. There are great memories. Christmas and revivals in little country churches. These great songs make us think of mother. The times in our lives that built the morality and the fabric of our lives. That made us the men and women we are.

B. Sentiment

The older we get the harder it is for us to change. There is security in stability. There is a whole chapter in Proverbs that tells us how difficult getting older can be.

C. Emotional

Those of us who are older have been ministered to by those great old hymns. We are moved to Jesus Christ by the Old Rugged Cross. There came passion and warmth that helped us get through those difficult times.

D. Theological
