Forward Overview (1 of 8)
SERIES: Forward
STEVE JONES
Acts 1
Series Summary: Lessons from Acts chapters one and two on moving forward with our lives and in our church.
Sermon Summary: Moving forward in Acts: 1) Application. 2) Verification. 3) Action.
INTRODUCTION: Let me show you a picture of the Australian coat of arms. What are the two animals on that coat of arms? The kangaroo and the emu. Those two animals have something in common which is the reason they were chosen. What is it that they have in common? The inability to go backwards. They can only go forwards.

I. Forward with APPLICATION
"In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach" Acts 1:1.
What is the "former book" alluded to here? Luke.
"I decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus" Luke 1:3.

"Theophilus" was probably the "Patron" of the book, meaning he paid for its production. "Theophilus" would make a terrific Biblical name for your next child, grandchild, or great-grandchild. Obviously, you would call him "Theo" for short.
In many ways, this sermon series, "Forward" is the natural/logical sequel to the previous sermon series "The Journey." That's why I'm saying we're moving forward with APPLICATION. In teaching and preaching you have INFORMATION followed by APPLICATION. If all a preacher does is give INFORMATION, the ...
