Ephesians 3:7-13
Ira Yates owned 8,000 acres of land in Texas where he raised sheep. Financial problems brought him the edge of bankruptcy during the Great Depression in the late 1920's as farm prices dropped as much as 50% so he couldn't pay his bills.
Transcontinental Oil Company, believing that there might be oil on his land asked for permission to drill. With nothing to lose, Mr. Yates agreed. The oil company was right, his land was filled with oil just beneath the surface. They drilled 175 wells, some only 20 feet and others 400 feet where they found oil.
Beneath his land they found 15,000 acres of oil.
In September 1929 they drilled a well a few hundred yards down the canyon and set a world record when it produced 8,528 barrels of oil per hour or 204,672 barrels per day. Production peaked that year, when more than 40 million barrels of oil were
produced. Overnight Mr. Yates went from the brink of bankruptcy to becoming a billionaire. The amazing thing, though, is that the untapped riches were there all along.
He just didn't know it!
Paul writes this letter to the believers to reveal the hidden treasure they have in Christ. He wanted Christians to know how spiritually wealthy they are in Christ.
When I sin, he forgives me.
When I doubt, he encourages me.
When I face trials, he is with me.
When I face persecution, he shields me.
When I fall, he lifts me up.
When I am afraid, he gives me courage.
When I am guilty, he will pardon me.
When I am hurting, he comforts me.
When I am weak, he gives me strength.
