In Nehemiah 11 & 12 a new day is dawning in Jerusalem. Let's review.

Jerusalem's walls are down. This leaves them in danger and disgrace.

Enter Nehemiah. He longs to see it safe & prosperous for God's glory & good of the people.

He gets permission from the King to go rebuild. He goes and rallies the people.

They encounter opposition both externally and internally. They persevere.

They finished the wall, law is read, they confess sin, making cov.

Ultimately, they experienced revival. It won't last, we see next week. But for now, a new day is dawning in Jerusalem. The goals they set out to accomplish are upon them.

In ch. 11 & 12 we have the repopulation of the city and the dedications of the walls. What we see here is a picture of a new day in Jerusalem. The walls are no longer down. There is no excuse for them to not be the flourishing city and people God intended for them to be. As they move from wall builders to being the missional people God created, as they move toward fully experiencing a new day in Jerusalem and fulfilling the purposes for which the walls were rebuilt... for them to be the thriving people of God... what will characterize them as a people?

- Three things stand out. As they move into a new day of living as the renewed people of God in a renewed Jerusalem, there are three clear traits.

1. Sacrifice - They were willing to sacrifice to fulfill God's purpose.

[1] Now the leaders of the people lived in Jerusalem. And the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to live in Jerusalem the holy city, while nine out of ten remained in the other towns. [2] And the people blessed all the men who willingly offered to live in Jerusalem.

Here is the situation: The city is not well populated because it has had no walls and in fact 7:4 gives us the scene, "The city was wide and large, but the people within it were few, and no houses ...
