Nehemiah 5:1-19
ILLUS.- "It was an inside job."- That's what they say when a crime is committed against a company by someone within the company.--- This morning we are going to see a crime so to speak, that's an inside job.--- Nothing threatens the community of God's people like our own sin.
- When there is opposition from without, like we discussed last week, it can unify people, but internal opposition always brings disunity.
Last week we look at Neh. 4 & 6 and saw that Nehemiah and the Jews faced incredible opposition as they built the wall but with the good hand of the Lord upon them they prevailed and persevered. In chapter 5 they are going to face turbulence within the community.
This morning we are going to see a community on the verge of rupture. Their is a group rooted in selfish indifference towards there very brothers and they are greedily hurting and exploiting them.
We need to see this morning that how we treat others in the community of faith matters. How we use power and wealth matters. God desires us to walk in compassion not indifference, generosity not greed. Ultimately our relationship with God will show up in how we relate to others and when sin enters the picture... it must be DEALT WITH.
