Nehemiah 4 & 6
ILLUS.- Airplane Turbulence- It's amazing how you can be 10,000 feet in the air and kinda forget you're flying. But there is this rude thing called TURBULENCE that makes you very well aware that you are in fact sitting in a chair, flying through the air, in a metal tube. You never more aware that you are in the air than when in turbulence.--- The Christian life can be similar. Things can be smooth flying... to the point... that you can forget you are in a war. That you are a part of the Kingdom of God but there is a domain of darkness. Then turbulence comes along and reminds you of reality.
Nehemiah has really been on a roll. Chapters 1, 2, and 3 have been SMOOTH SAILING. Chapter 3 would be a nice, neat little way to end the story. However you and I know... its been too easy. --- Life is never easy. Most importantly the Christian life is not easy.
As Nehemiah and the people went about doing God's will we are going to see them meet some turbulence. Things have been so awesome the first 3 chapters, so easy, that you can almost forget that this wall hasn't been fully restored in like over a century! You can almost forget that the surrounding nations hate you. You can almost forget that the king once stopped this type of effort. Little did Nehemiah know, the easiest part was over. Now the hard times began. The turbulence they faced... and a type we face as well is OPPOSITION.
If you are going to be a Christian who lives not for yourself but seeks first the Kingdom of God, if you are going to do God's will and live for God's glory and serve others... you need to know YOU WILL FACE OPPOSITION. Opposition is anything that can throw you or us off track from obeying God and fulfilling His purpose for our lives.--- And you are never more aware you are in a spiritual war than when you face it.
- If you are not a Christian today, you face opposition in life as well. It's just your g ...
