Nehemiah 2:9-3:32
Illus.- The best stories and moments in your life were likely lived out with others. Your best stories.. "Remember that time..." They are rarely times you were alone. It's rarely, "Man this one time I was playing video games alone and..." Nobody wants to hear about that story. The best moments in your life... your wedding, the birth of a child, birthdays, holidays... they are celebrated with others. --- Life is better together.
- This morning I want us to see that as we seek to fulfill our individual and corporate callings in the Kingdom of God... that is best done together. God has a role for YOU to play in his Kingdom child of God. God has a role for US as a CHURCH to play as well... and both the individual and corporate callings need to be lived out together.
- You will never reach your full potential in Christ alone. This church will never reach our full potential in Christ unless it functions as a community.
If you are not a Christian, understand that the Bible teaches that life is meant to be lived out with others, in community. The church is to be a community of Christ followers who are seeking to advance His gospel and thus His Kingdom together for His glory. When we come to Christ we get a new identity and mission and this is lived in a new family.
In Nehemiah's day they lived looking forward to the coming of Christ. Nehemiah had a role to play in God's story as did the other Jewish believers at that time. --- Today we live looking forward to Christ's return and we have a role, a calling until then.
Last week we saw Nehemiah was beginning to rebuild with God. He was joining God in His work. Since the Babylonian exile over 100 years before Jerusalem had been in disarray. Work had begun and then be caused to cease on order of the king.
- In chapter 1 Nehemiah receives word that the city walls are down and the gates burned. Rebuild w/ God- Burden, Prayer, Surrender ...
