Today, we conclude our Rhythms series. (Worship, Work, Rest, & Relationships)

You just saw a Mother's Day montage from some of our people here at North Park. - We know mother's play a vital role in the lives of their children. We are grateful for all the mom's here at North Park and all the godly women who invest in our children, and other young women.

Generally the relationship of mother and child is the very first one that is forged. After that life is a series of relationships with family, friends, classmates, co-workers, neighbors and so on.

A 2019 Time article, by Jamie Ducharme noted that one study "found that the strength of a person's social circle-as measured by inbound and outbound cell phone activity-was a better predictor of self-reported stress, happiness and well-being levels than fitness tracker data on physical activity, heart rate and sleep."

We need friends, family, supporters. We need HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS.

Today I want to look at the example of Ruth and Naomi, and share with you some biblical principles about healthy relationships and friendships.

Our bottom line today is: God works through relationships, so should recognize our NEED and BUILD healthy friendships in our lives.

Context: The book of Ruth opens by telling us about a man named Elimelech and his wife Naomi during the times of the Judges. - Now this is a spiritually dark time in Israel's history. Read the book of Judges, lots of weird stuff went down. People "lived their own truth" instead of God's and that got them right where you'd expect... mess after mess. - A FAMINE comes across the land, most likely as discipline of the Lord on a rebellious people, and rather than beg God to bring healing and revival... Elimelech fleas. He takes his family to MOAB. -This is a strange move for an Israelite, they considered the Moabites enemies. Elimelech dies. Their two sons end up marrying Moabite women, w ...
