There was a sign on the wall behind the counter at a local business that read, "I am planning to have a nervous breakdown. It's mine. I've worked hard for it. I deserve it. I have earned it. Nobody is going to keep me from it!"

We are a restless, anxious, and fearful people.

- We stress over what happened, over what is happening and over what might happen.

- Our minds constantly race to keep pace with life which seems to move at breakneck speeds.

- We slow up for nothing and no one because if we do...

o We fear life may run us over.

o Or we may not be able to chase down our earthbound dreams.

- The cadence of our lives beats faster and faster until we weary of our own existence.

This is how many of us live, feel and think about life...but it is not how God intended life to be. It was never the design of the Shepherd for His sheep to be harried, hurried, hungry, in harm's way and without peace.

Last week we began a series of devotions based on the beloved 23rd Psalm, a psalm we looked at in detail almost 15 years ago. This psalm is a psalm for today, not just hospitals and funerals. "We would all be better off if its truths were imprinted on more hearts than printed in funeral programs."

Last week in introducing the psalm, we primarily looked at the identity of our Shepherd. Today, we begin considering what the Shepherd provides for His sheep. As we do, I want us to ask ourselves the questions, is this our experience? Is this reflected in our lives?
