- What a joy to be a part of child dedication today at North Park. There is no more important investment than the one we make in our families and our children. One of the key things we do as parents is to teach our children to OBEY. It's one thing to teach someone right from wrong, its another to teach them to obey. That's hard for a kid. Obedience is humbling. It means you are submitting to someone, you are surrendering to their authority over you. It's not just hard for kids. It can be hard for adults to. --- One of the keys to walking in joy in the Christian life is obedience.---- To put it plainly, obedient Christians are joyful Christians. You can't experience the full joy of the Christian life without obedience.

- Philippians is a book written by Paul while in prison. Over and over he speaks of his joy, and he tells them to rejoice. As we journey through this book we begin to see some of the keys to living out the joy we have in Christ.

- We looked last week at Paul's addressing the attitudes that destroy unity in the church. God calls us to an attitude of humility that promotes unity and love in the church. Today we are going to talk about the importance of obedience in the Christian life. Without obedience we can't walk in the fulness of joy, so today I want you to see that its a miracle and a witness and then let's look at two great examples of obedient servants of the Lord.

[12] Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, [13] for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
