- Illus.- The Greatest selling book of all time outside of the Bible is a Christian book. It was written about 12-15 years ago, its called The Purpose Driven Life. The tagline was "What on earth am I here for?"- This book swept nation, churches gobbled it up. In its title it was speaking to something that everyone is curious about. Purpose. - One of the keys to joy, peace, contentment in life is having a life of purpose. In fact, is there anything much more depressing than assuming you have no purpose, no reason to live?

- Christians know that purpose is found in Christ. In fact, you can't know true purpose the real reason you are here without knowing Christ. Life is about God, about Christ. Life is about the Creator, the Sustainer of the Universe. For all of us life is about something... if not Christ its something else... family, work, money, power, pleasure... its ultimately about making ourselves happy apart form God.

- The Apostle Paul is in prison writing a letter to Philippians and he speaks of joy some 14x's in the letter. He is locked up but joyful. He is facing adversity but joyful. He has a joy that is not determined by circumstances but by a person. ---- Why is Paul able to write with such joy?

- In the midst of suffering, in a time when most people would slink into despondency, many would give up... but Paul has joy. It becomes evident in this morning's passage that his joy is not circumstantial as he reflects on his imprisonment.

- This morning we are going to hear that part of Paul's joy in Christ was rooted in the fact that his purpose was SHAPED not by circumstances but the GOSPEL. The Gospel shaped all of Paul's life, not just his theology. It shaped his view of everything. This morning we are going to see importance of Gospel Shaped purpose.
