This week we begin a new series in Philippians. The plan is to take 8 weeks to go through this book together, concluding on December 20. Philippians is a short book that packs a powerful punch. This is a book that has as one of its major themes... Joy. Joy and its variants in the Greek are used in Philippians 14 times. It's also a book that mentions Jesus and titles for Jesus A LOT. It also talks about the Christian mind more than other books. This is a book that is an encouragement to all believers to live joyful Christ-centered lives grounded in thinking that has been transformed by the gospel. This is a book full of joy that encourages us to live gospel-centered lives of joy.

- People both in and out of church today are largely not very joyful today it seems. We see anger and depression are rampant. We see people who crumble under unfortunate circumstances. Life is hard. Unfortunate and horrible things happens. Only Christianity has the answers and provides the strength through Christ for victorious, joyful daily living.

- This morning we are going to look at the first 11 verses of Philippians. We are going to see that in the first chapter Paul is bubbling over with joy as he thinks about these fellow believers. This is weird because we are going to learn this is a time where Paul could have been very lonely, yet he has great joy and one of the reasons for that joy is the RELATIONSHIP he has with this church.
