Title: Characteristics of a Christian!
Author: Marvin Patterson
Text: 1 John 3:13-24
Introduction:
A Rabbi went to the barber shop. After his hair cut, he got ready to pay the barber and the barber said, "No Rabbi, I don't charge the clergy for haircuts." So the next morning the barber found a loaf of Jewish rye bread outside of his door step.
A couple of days past and a Catholic priest came in to get his hair cut. He got ready to pay and the barber said, "No Father, I don't charge the clergy for hair cuts." So the next morning he found a bottle of wine outside his front door step.
A couple of days later the Baptist preacher came in to get his hair cut and when he got ready to pay the barber said, "No Reverend, I don't charge the clergy for their hair cuts." So the next morning, the barber found 15 Baptist preachers on his doorstep, ready to get their hair cut!
1-Our love for others is a great characteristic of a Christian!
13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
Do not let it surprise you when someone in the world tries to aggravate or offend you! They hated Jesus, and they will hate you! When you live a godly clean life, that brings conviction upon them and they cannot stand it! Therefore they may treat you rudely when you live for Christ, and invite them to come to church with you but God will bless you for your efforts!
People who are morally upright expose and shame those who aren't. If we live for God, the world will often hate us, because we make them painfully aware of their immoral way of living-Life Application Bible Notes
History is filled with stories of the persecution of the saints by the world (Heb 11:36-40). This does not surprise believers because hateful Satan is their father (v. 10). (John McArthur Study Bible.)
14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
We know that we are saved ...
