Title: Love of God
Author: Marvin Patterson
Text: 1 John 3:1-12
Introduction:
We have been looking at 1 John on Sunday Nights. The little Epistle of 1 John gives several assurances of salvation. Tonight we will look at ways to know that you have been saved to the glory of God! We are thankful for God's salvation, and now we can rejoice knowing that we share in that wonderful salvation with God!
Body:
1-God's Love in our life shows we are Christians
3 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
John is saying here to stop, look, and listen to what he is about to say! This is wonderful Bible doctrine that teaches us that God the Father loved us so much that we are actually called the Sons of God, born again into the family of God!
3:1 children of God. Born ones of God, as in John 1:12. We can, even now, know Him as a child knows its father; the future relationship no words can describe.
-Ryrie Study Notes
The world does not understand our position in Jesus Christ, but the child of God definitely understands that teaching! Jesus came to the world, but the world knew Him not, and the world will not know us! We are strangers and pilgrims passing through this land on our way to heaven! The world for "behold" means,
to know: - be aware, behold, X can (+ not tell), consider, (have) known (-ledge), look (on), perceive, see, be sure, tell,
We are to be aware of, to look, to perceive and tell others the good news of the Gospel so they can hear the wonderful words of life and be saved!
As believers, our self-worth is based on the fact that God loves us and calls us his children. We are his children now, not just sometime in the distant future. Knowing that we are his children should encourage us to live as Jesus did. -Life Application Bible Notes
