Throughout the centuries battles were fought by hand-to-hand combat, but that all changed in World War I with the invention of machine guns, tanks and heavy artillery which could be fired
from miles away and cause massive destruction because the shells were so powerful.
British doctors working in Military hospitals noticed soldiers suffering from lack of concentration, headaches, and mental breakdowns. They came to the conclusion that the soldier's condition was caused by heavy artillery shells exploding around them. They believed the bursting shell created a vacuum which causes the air to rush into this vacuum and disturbs the cerebral spinal fluid which upsets the working of the brain. The doctors began to call these symptoms "shell shock."
During World War I the French soldiers took a pounding from the Germans with their heavy artillery. After the war hundreds of shell-shocked French soldiers could not remember who they were anymore. The military's records were so faulty that they were no help. How could those victims of amnesia recall their names and be reunited with their families? Someone suggested an Identification Rally to be held in Paris for the whole country.
On the day of the rally took place, thousands of people gathered in a large plaza in Paris. One by one the bewildered soldiers mounted the platform, anxiously looked at the crowd and asked,
"Please, please, can somebody tell me who I am?"
Our personal identity is important, we need to know who we are so we can live and work in our society. Even more important is our spiritually identity. Do you know who you are spiritually? There are many people who call themselves Christians but don't know who they really are in Christ Jesus.
Paul says there are two classes of people in the world: those who are not forgiven of their sins and excluded from the household ...
