- God is going to bring this world to a close. - Things are going to get WORSE before they get better. I think Revelation shows us that. - For many this can be a scary thought. - The world can be a scary place. It is filled now with suffering, tragedies, difficulties, sin, war. There are believers in Christ who are being persecuted for their faith. - The world can be a scary place.

- However, I believe the Bible teaches that just before Christ returns things will get worse. - This is often referred to as THE TRIBULATION or THE GREAT TRIBULATION.

- Here is the thing ... we are ALWAYS going through tribulation. - The world is broken, sin and its consequences run rampant. - However, there is going to be a time of WORSE TRIBULATION.

- Last week we began to see the seals of the scroll opened. - I mentioned the judgements in seals are "preliminary judgments" and are either the beginning of the end time tribulation period, or they are general judgments that are taking place throughout history leading up to the tribulation, the birth pains that Jesus mentioned in the gospels. I lean toward that second understanding, but could see either one.

- After the Sixth Seal John sees something that commentators refer to as an INTERLUDE in the book. John sort of pauses and gives us new information. - He's going to tell us what is going on with GOD'S PEOPLE.

- In effect Revelation 7 shows us what happens with God's people PRIOR TO and AFTER the Tribulation period.

- So it is my understanding ... and there is no need for dogmatics here ... that this section shows us how God PROTECTS His people during the tribulation. It is also a reminder for us that despite what we encounter in this world ... GOD PROTECTS AND CARES FOR HIS PEOPLE ... AND WILL ULTIMATELY RESCUE US FROM ALL SUFFERING.
