Title: Philadelphia & Laodicea: Faithful & Fruitless (6)
Series: The Book of Revelation
Author: Josh Malone
Text: Rev. 3:7-22
- On Palm Sunday we are reminded that Jesus is in fact KING. - He was hailed as king by many on that first Palm Sunday, but many were looking for a king to rule and reign over the government right then. - But the KING will return. - He's coming back, to rule and reign. - And right now today ... He's on the throne.
- The church is the one place that is to recognize and submit to Jesus as King.
- The church belongs to Jesus. Jesus is our Lord, our Shepherd, our Savior, and our King.
- In Revelation we've been looking at the individual addresses to the 7 churches the book was written to. - Today, we look at the last two ... Philadelphia and Laodicia.
- Churches can be healthy, and churches can be sick. - People can be spiritually healthy, or sick. - And healthy people, organizations churches ... can become sick. Can develop sinful attitudes, and behaviors.
- How you counsel a healthy person, going through a hard time. And how you counsel a sick person ... is different right? One person you might encourage, build up ... the other needs to know what to do to get healthy. If their lifestyle is making them sick, a doctor may tell them ... you need to do or not do X.
- Today there is one spiritually healthy church, and one is very sick. - One is going to be encouraged, the other rebuked. - Jesus loves the church enough to give it what it needs, to confront its sin, and to encourage it in its trial.
