Title: The True King (2)
Series: The Book of Revelation
Author: Josh Malone
Text: Revelation 1:4-8
- Revelation. - We said last week this book is about Jesus. It's the Word of God. It conveys and urgent message, and it is a source of blessing.
- The word "revelation" means unveiling. It is REVEALING something to us. It reveals Jesus in His glory. It reveals things about the coming judgment on this world. It reveals things about the end of the age. It is a revealing book.
- As we study this book we don't want to get so enamored with all the SYMOBOLS ... and they are many ... and they are important ... but we don't want to miss the SAVIOR.
- This week and next we will see some things it reveals about JESUS.
- Revelation should ENCOURAGE us. It should help us REFOCUS on what matters most. If we are toying with the world and with sin ... it should reprove us and lead us to REPENT. It should stir in us an EXPECTANCY for Christ's return and a longing for a NH & NE. It should INSPIRE us to live on mission where we are while we wait.
- Revelation should POINT US TO JESUS. - It should deepen our love, faith, and commitment.
- Here in chapter 1 we are going to be reminded who the true King is.
- Domitian may have been in power when this book was written, he died in 96 A.D. He demanded to be referred to as "Master and God."
- Imagine being a Christian w/ that type of ruler in power. - Revelation reminds us in each generation ... there is only one Master. One Lord. One God. - Jesus is the True King.
- Here in 1:4-8 - John opens like a normal letter. There is even a doxology. - But major portion of these 5 verses focuses on Jesus. From the outset John is communicating to us who the REAL KING is.
Rev. 1:4-8 - 4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia:
Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the ...
