One of the deepest needs in our world today is to find a way to deal with guilt.

I recently read an article where a psychiatrist stated, "The majority of people who are in our mental institutions are there because they could never find a solution to their guilt."

Guilt is a terrible thing. It causes such a terrible self-image. You might have heard someone say, "I'm my own worst enemy."

All a psychiatrist or psychologist can do to help you with your guilt is to deal with your feelings. But they cannot help you deal with the guilt.

You see - you may burn your hand with fire and it will hurt. Your sensory nerves send a message to your brain that there is pain - but it is the burn - not your pain that is the problem. The pain is simply a manifestation of the burn itself.

When you deal with guilt - you must deal with the reason you feel guilty. You solve the reason of your guilt - the feeling will go away.

You treat the burn - the pain will go away.

Listen to the prayer of a man who has guilt. Psalm 38:1-18
