Title: The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree (9)
Series: The Parable
Author: Josh Malone
Text: Luke 13:6-9
- Sometimes the world can feel ... chaotic. Filled with evil acts, tragedy, war, suffering.
- It sometimes seem that we go from tragedy to tragedy. Shocking moment to shocking moment. Violent act to violent act.
- I think some of this is because in our day of technology the world has never been smaller. We can hear about news from around the world in a moment ... not days, not weeks later, but moments later.
- Anytime we look around at world full of suffering, tragedies, calamities, disasters, etc. - It's a good reminder of this ... what we all need most is REPENTANCE toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. - We need to repent.
- The evil, suffering, and tragedies we see in the world is in need of repentance. - A world fill with the impact of sin is a reminder that humanity needs ... repentance.
- What do I mean? I mean that the world is broken. It's sinful. It's marred. It is sin that has wreaked havoc on this world. - Suffering exists because sin exists.
- Suffering is here because sin is here. - When sin is gone, so will suffering.
- Also, sin brings judgement. - Where sin is forgiven, there is no judgment.
- So when we see suffering ... it should remind us of our own sin. It should encourage us to repent and turn to Christ. If we've already done that ... it should encourage us to continue walking in repentance. Sin kills, the path to life is a path of repentance.
- In Luke 13 Jesus deals with an issue of human suffering ... and the need for repentance. He then tells a parable to support his teaching and to encourage repentance and a fruitful life.
- What I want us to see in this passage today is that we need to see the need for repentance and seize the opportunity to repent.
Luke 13:1-9 - There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifi ...
