ILLUS. - It's amazing to look at a garden, or an agricultural field ... and think ... it all started with seeds. - You can look at a tree ... and know .... it started with a seed. - Cannon recently decided he'd plant a watermelon seed ... after eating the watermelon. - He put it in a little cup, and low and behold before long he had a seedling. Before you knew it ... it had to move to the round, a long vine developed. - Let's not talk about where things went. - But you get the point ... it starts ... with a seed!
- Today ... Jesus is going to liken the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed and then to leaven. - Jesus is teaching some very important truths about the Kingdom.
- What is the Kingdom of God (Heaven)? It is as we quoted John Piper last week ... the rule and reign of God. - Right now Jesus RULES and REIGNS in the hearts and lives of those who have received Him by faith. - When you come to Christ by faith you surrender to His rule and reign in your own life. - There is coming a day when the Kingdom of God is consummated ... when Christ shall return and rule and reign on the earth.
- When Jesus speaks of the Kingdom He is speaking of more than the future reign ... He is speaking of what happens NOW when someone follows Christ. - God's present rule over the hearts and lives of His people. - The spiritual reality of the believer.
- Listen as Jesus gives us two short parables about the Kingdom of God (Heaven).
Matt. 13:31-33 - 31 He put another parable before them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches."
33 He told them another parable. "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman too ...
