ILLUS. - The Power of Story - Stories can be powerful tools. A good movie, tells a good story. A good TV show has good stories. Good books contain good stories. - We like stories at our house. Sometimes at the kids' bed time I'll tell a story. One thing we do is I'll have each kid pick something ... a person, a place, a thing. Then I'll incorporate those elements into an off the cuff story. The kids love it ... most of the time. - Kids love stories. They love funny stories. We aren't that different, we all love a good story. We can use stories to teach and to learn, to entertain ... to make us laugh.
- Jesus told stories. But he told a very specific kind. He told PARABLES. Jesus' parables communicate powerful truth to the believer who chooses to hear and receive. However, to those who reject Christ and His Word ... it concealed, and warns. It challenges.
- In our new series we are going to look at several of Jesus' parables in the gospels. We are going to start with "The Parable of the Sower."
- This parable teaches us the importance of HEARING and RECEIVING God's Word.
- This is story is a reminder of the POWER of the Word of God and the IMPORTANCE of a HEART that truly RECEIVES it.
Matthew 13:23 - That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. 2 And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach. 3 And he told them many things in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, 6 but when the sun rose they were scorched.
