When Britain's' Queen Elizabeth II was a child, her parents

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth I, held a garden party at Buckingham Palace, but a rainstorm forced the party to move indoors. Elizabeth and her younger sister wandered into the
room where the quests had gathered and were politely bombarded by questions. During a pause in the conversations, Elizabeth pointed toward a nearby wall and a painting of Jesus on the cross.

She remarked, "That's the man my papa says is really king."

Our English word king means: the one invested with supreme authority over a nation, tribe or country, a ruler.

The Hebrew word king comes from the word: to reign or rule.

A king is someone who rules over a nation or people.

I Kings 1:35 David said, "Solomon shall be king in my place.

I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and Judah."

Promise

God had promised Israel a king who would reign over them.

II Samuel 7:12 God told David when you die, "I will raise up
your offspring after you, who shall come from your body,
and I will establish his kingdom. :16 Your kingdom will be made sure forever before me. Your throne will be established forever.

Isaiah 9:6-7 To us a child is born, to us a son is given . . .

Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end on the throne of David and over
his kingdom to establish it and to uphold it with justice.

Jeremiah 23:5 I will raise up for David a righteous Branch
and he shall reign as king and deal wisely.
This king would be holy in contrast with all the other kings.
