II Chronicles 7:11-22
2nd Chronicles 7:14 makes it clear that Israel would only be healed when their hearts were humbled, their lips opened in prayer, their eyes turned toward the Lord, and their lives turned away from sin. ''If my people, who are called by my name, will humbles themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, THEN will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.''
America stands in need of healing. She has been wounded in the heart by terror, suffering, and death. America not only stands in need of healing; she stands ready to receive it. People who before September 11th never gave a thought to spiritual matters are now hungry to find spiritual answers. Their world has been turned upside down and their hope has been shattered. They are looking for healing and searching for God.
The same formula God gave to heal Israel He now gives to heal America. ''If my people, who are called by my name, will humbles themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, THEN will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.'' The healing of America must begin with healing of the Church. The healing of America must start with the healing of my soul. ''If my people, who are called by my name. . ..''
Though God is the same today as He was yesterday, though He is as everywhere present now as He was then, in the Old Testament He designated the Temple in Jerusalem as the place where His name, eyes and heart would always be present. In our day He has rebuilt that Temple, not in a specific place but in specific hearts. His Temple is now the Body of Christ, His people saved by grace through faith in Jesus in Christ. 1st Corinthians 3:16 says of Christians, ''Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?'' And Ephesians 2:19-22 describes us this way: ''Consequently, you are no long ...
