Title: A Little Taste of Heaven
Author: Jerry Watts
Text: Revelation 21:1-27
Years ago, Lanny Wolfe wrote, "Heaven, I've had a little taste of heaven, I've had a little
touch of heaven, I've had a little glimpse of heaven, I want to go where the milk and honey flow. No more sorrow, pain, or woe. I've had a little taste of heaven and I want to go there."
In 1999, Bart Millard wrote "I can only Imagine."
Heaven is a place where everyone seems to want to go, but as I hear the talk, few seem to have the right motivation or make the right plans. Dr. James Kennedy (EE) began with this question, "I you were standing before God right now and He asked, "Why should I let you into my heaven, what would you say?" What a question!! What would be YOUR ANSWER to that question? To be close to my parents, grandparents, or spouse, will not get you in. It seems that many who say they want to go to heaven are not excited about seeing God, Jesus, or spending time in the place where God's will is everything, remember 'as it is in Heaven.'
Today, from this chapter, I want to paint a picture that is so inviting that everyone in this room will want to make sure that you will be there. This is the reason we do what we do. Picture a little boy sitting on his pappaw's lap, looking up and says, "Look at the blue sky, the sun, and the white clouds. Look at the moon, the stars, and all the rest. If this side of heaven is this beautiful on the outside, what does the inside look like?"
Revelation 21 is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful and encouraging chapters in all of God's word. We can talk about Creation, Christmas, the cross, and more, but talking about heaven always appeals to people, and with good reason. Heaven is everything we could ever dream about, and this chapter lays it all out for us.
Let's read Chapter 21. Fifteen months ago we spoke of the numbers of the Revelation. Seven was the number of perfection. Let's get a taste of heaven in 7 thoughts abou ...
