Things that matter, really matter, are things you guard.

The more value something has, the more we are willing to pay to make sure its secure.

I guard my wife when out in public, holding her hand crossing a street or parking lot.

I lock the doors of my car, especially when there are valuable items.

In 2017 Americans were spending over 17 billion dollars annually on home security. There is billions spent each year protecting and guarding things. People buy dogs not just for companionship, but for things. (Unusual guard animals? Donkey & Llama)

Some of my favorite movies have been about people guarding people.

There is something in us that is instinctive so to speak in the area of guarding...


I believe that is from God, that the very heart of God is to guard.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NLT)

3 But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.

Psalm 121:5-7 (NLT)

5 The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.
6 The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night.
7 The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.

I think we lean into guarding because God has created us with that spiritual DNA so to speak.

And we need to be reminded of that from time to time because sometimes we let our guard down right?

I was drawn to the story of Nehemiah and his purpose to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

Nehemiah 2:17 (NLT)

17 But now I said to them, "You know very well what trouble we are in. Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire. Let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and end this disgrace!"
