Open your bibles to Genesis 8. A couple weeks ago, I was in my office talking to a wonderful, godly woman who has served faithfully in our church for many, many years. She said something that kind of surprised me at first but has resonated within my heart and mind ever since. She pointed back to a time months ago where she was struggling spiritually, and then she said this: 'I felt like God had forgotten about me and was done with me.' Have you been there? Have you ever gone through a tough stretch of life, and felt like God had forgotten and abandoned you? You read the bible, but for whatever reason it just didn't speak to you. You prayed, but it didn't seem as if you were heard? You never stopped believing like you did before, but no matter what you tried you couldn't seem to feel like you did before. God seemed very distant and very silent. If so, Genesis 8 is for you.

Last week, we looked at Genesis 7 where Noah and his family are told by God to get on the ark because the God's judgment against sin and unrepentant sinners in the form of a worldwide flood was about to come. Noah had spent 120 years building the ark exactly like God had commanded him. He also preached and warned everyone who would listen about what was coming, but no one would listen. So upon God's command, Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives got on the ark with two of every kind of animal on the earth, and then it says, God shut the door. And when he did, quite literally, all of hell broke loose. Water started gushing up from the ground, peeling back gigantic layers of the earth. The vapor canopy in the sky that surrounded the earth at the time broke open, and rain began to fall from the sky with a torrential force that had never been seen before. Oceans and oceans of water gushed up from the earth and down from sky until the flood water were over 20 feet higher ...
