1. THE SIN SIDESTEPPED.

V8: "Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden."

That's what this verse is like. They've done something bad, God comes looking for them, and the first thing Adam does is dive behind a tree. Does this seem weird to anyone else? Here's all-knowing, all-seeing, ever-present God of the universe, and Adam's like 'This tree will do the trick. He'll never find me here.' Really?! You know, when we sin we get dumb, don't we? If you don't believe me watch 'Cops'. When we sin we get real dumb. We're not in our right mind. We're not all together and logical.

Notice here that Adam and Eve hide behind creation from the Creator. Hiding from the presence of God or the authority of God is common. Some hide behind unbelief, doubt, and skepticism. Some hide behind self-righteous, works based religion. Some hide behind the quest for pleasure, status, achievement, or wealth.

We laugh at Adam & Eve cause it's funny, isn't it? But it's not funny when it's you or me. What should Adam and Eve have done when God came looking for them? They should have run to God in repentance, right? They should have run to God fall on their faces and pleaded for mercy.

Listen, what Adam should have done then, we should do now. We need to learn from Adam and Eve that hiding doesn't work. God is good. God is gracious. You can bank on it today.

V9-10: "But the Lord God called to the man, "Where are you?" He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."
