Title: The Church Has a Mandate To Evangelize (3)
Author: Dr. Darrow Perkins
Text: Matthew 28:18-20
INTRODUCTION: In our society, we can find an excuse to get out of anything and everything. Sometimes we do so because the thing we are getting ready to do, we have never done it before and are afraid to "launch out into the deep." Yet, on the other hand, we come upon something and decide we "don't feel like doing it." Then also, some may say, "I don't need to do it because somebody else is doing it. Well, if that somebody is doing something for the building of the Kingdom, we should get on board and stop making excuses. Even in the church setting, people will make excuses not to go or not to do. For example, if somebody in the church hurts your feelings, you may decide to stay home to get back at that person. On the other hand, if the Pastor or one of the officers hurt your feelings, you may decide to withhold your financial giving as a way of showing your frustration. We have to ask ourselves, "why do I go to church?" and "what do I expect to get out of it when I get there?" The answer should be to worship the Lord and to receive a word or a blessing from Him while there. Therefore, we must come to the realization that as it pertains to the Kingdom of God; we have got to Overcome Excuses and Fears.
BACKGROUND/TEXT: When you look at the text, it is clear that Jesus is commanding and directing His disciples to share or spread the gospel. Evangelism is the method by which God has set up to ensure the gospel message continues to be shared outside the walls of the church facility. It is one thing to hear the message while sitting in the sanctuary, but it is something entirely different to not only hear the message, but also take that message to the masses outside the sanctuary. Again, this message is not just for us individually; it is a message that needs to be carried out and spread about for the kingdom's glory.
