INTRODUCTION: In their book, "Designed to Lead," Eric Geiger and Kevin Peck says: "Developing leaders is hard work for an organization. It often seems like an even harder task for the local church. Many seem to be on the same page about its importance, and yet very few churches would admit to having a handle on the subject."1 They further go on to say, "For leaders to be developed consistently and intentionally, churches must possess conviction, culture, and constructs."2

Leadership in the church is God ordained and expected by Him as well. If you look at the history of the world through the Bible, you see that God has always established leadership for His people. For example:

Adam was established by God as the head of the family;

Moses was established by God as the leader of the children of Israel. As time went on...

Judges were established by God to be leaders for the Children of Israel. After the Judges,

Samuel was established by God as the leader for the Children of Israel. In the providence of God,

Kings were established by God as the leaders for the Children of Israel. And,

As the church age came in, God established pastors as the leaders of each local assembly.

Since we acknowledge that God is the One who has established leadership in the world, and more importantly in the church, it then becomes our responsibility to obey God and apply leadership principles according to His word and will.

I have three (3) final leadership principles that leaders should apply and also for those who are in a place to follow leadership.
