Zephaniah 3:17

The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing."

Religion loves the concept of an angry, vengeful God, but this is not how scripture portrays the Lord. God is not angry at you when you fall short of righteousness. The Bible says that God does not look at mankind with anger because of his weakness to sin, for He understands that people are limited to their flesh.1 At least we are limited to the flesh until we discover the new life of the Spirit.

You may have been taught that when you sin, God is angry at you, but this is simply not true. God hates sin because of the harm it brings upon us; however, His plan is not to judge us, but to judge sin and rescue us from its grip.

Jesus demonstrated love, not judgment, when He walked the earth in the flesh. Not one time did Jesus place any requirement on any person, other than faith. The only exceptions were when self-righteous people tried to justify themselves. Then Jesus used the requirements of the law to prove that all fall short - even the most religious among us.

Faith is believing what God has said and trusting that He will do what He has promised. Faith believes what God declares, even when it seems impossible. Faith believes that God declared us clean, when our flesh is still tainted by this world. Faith believes that God has the power to do what cannot be accomplished by the natural world.

When sick people came to Jesus, He healed them and forgave sin. Four men brought their paralyzed friend to Jesus for healing, and Jesus said to the bedridden man, "Your sins are forgiven of you."
