From the lowest ashes arises the greatest victory.

Many church teachings have missed the mark in this area. While scripture teaches that we should encourage one another and bear one another's burdens, we often hear words of condemnation and criticism. Those who can't measure up feel unwelcomed from the church. While religious people believe they are ministering like Jesus, the reality is that Jesus was condemned for lifting up the weak. He was condemned for having a relationship with the sinner. Sinners were drawn to Jesus, while the religious elite were repelled from Him.

If we are mirroring Jesus, why are sinners repelled and the religious elite are drawn to our organizations? Why do people hide their weaknesses instead of feeling free to share them and get genuine compassion from the church?

The truth is that God loves to take us in our weaknesses and messed up lives, and raise us up with new life and purpose. Almost every example of a person God uses in the Bible are those who were failures, outsiders, and dishonored among the culture. God loves to take our failures, and raise us into success so that there is no doubt that His Spirit is working in us. People are impacted by the revelation of His love, not by our boasts of success.

No one is amazed when someone is born into success or privilege. The real glory is found in someone with the deck stacked against them, too weak to stand, and no ability to succeed. Then God says, "This is what I can do," and speaks life into our weary soul, and raises beauty from the ashes of despair. In grace, there is no such thing as disadvantaged.
