INTRODUCTION: There are a lot of people in our society who do not like to be "preached" to for various reasons. I believe some of it is because they don't want to hear the truth, or they don't want the word to expose them for who they really are. The truth of the matter is that we need to be preached to on a regular basis in order for us to live up to the expectation God has placed upon us as Christians in this world we're living in. In Romans 14:c-15a, the Bible says, "...and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach except they be sent?"
It's interesting to me how people can sit through a speech about things that may be pertinent to everyday life, but have a problem with listening to a sermon that is pertinent both to this life and eternal life. We live in a "Burger King," (have it your way) and a microwave society whereby we want everything quick, fast, and in a hurry. If we don't slow down, and open up to God's will and direction, we're gonna miss out on some significant blessings that He has for us.
One of the reasons we need to hear sermons and the truth is because there are people outside the walls of the sanctuary that need to hear what God has for them. Again, it's hard to impossible to share about a savior you don't know, but it becomes extremely easy to share a savior you have a personal and intimate relationship with.
I would ask that we all become more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit with respects to outreach. We can't take it all in and keep it all in; we have to make sure we reach out to those who need hope and tell them about the One who is our blessed hope; we have to make sure we reach out to those who need healing and make sure they know about the Chief Physician; we have to make sure we reach out those who need salvation, and make sure they know the One who made salvation avai ...
