Text: Isaiah 61:1-2
INTRODUCTION: It appears to me that the further we have moved from what Jesus did for us on Calvary, the further we have moved from Jesus. Our world and society has faced over the years a decline of morality and an increase in sickness and disease. Because of this, we find that in America specifically, we have people who are dealing with all kinds of mental health issues. Some of those issues include bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, depressive disorder, anxiety, PTSD, Dementia, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Obviously, these conditions today require professional medical attention to treat them, but they are not out of the scope and power of our Almighty God. One of His names is Jehovah-Rapha, the Lord our Healer. The Bible says in Exodus 15:26, "...If thou shalt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians; for I am the LORD that healeth thee." I think God is looking for His Church to make people aware of the fact that He is the One who provides the healing and deliverance the world so desperately needs.
It is my personal belief that God intended for His Church to be the place where people from all occupations can get the help, assistance, and deliverance they need. With the separation of church and state, our society, and more importantly, the people have resorted to different non-profit organizations, and non-Christian community development centers looking for the assistance they need. As a result of this, people have resigned to themselves that there is no real need for the church because these non-profit and CDC's are providing them with the assistance they are searching for.
